How the planner works

Driving time = distance ÷ average speed, plus about 15% for breaks, fuel and loading. On the first and last day the bus drives the long leg plus local driving; in between, only local driving. If any day goes over the 10-hour driving limit for passenger carriers, you need a second driver or an extra overnight stop. Each night away needs a hotel room per driver.

The daily rate is only an editable starting point — get written quotes. See charter bus prices.

Frequently asked questions

How many hours can a bus driver drive in a day?

Under federal hours-of-service rules for passenger carriers, a driver may drive up to 10 hours after 8 consecutive hours off duty, and may not drive after 15 hours on duty. Longer days need a second driver or an overnight stop.

Do I pay for the driver’s hotel?

On overnight trips, yes — groups usually pay for a separate room for each driver, close to where the group stays.

Why does this planner add extra time?

Buses drive slower than cars on average and need breaks, fuel and loading time. We add a buffer for stops so the estimate stays realistic.
